2020 Year in Review

2020

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

In 2020 United Way of Knox County sent out almost 30,000 books to local children throughout our county. Knox County was the second county in the state to declare itself as a Grade Level Reading Community.

Our partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is helping ensure that children in our community are prepared when they enter kindergarten.

Child Supper Program

With the help of our community we were able to serve over 162,000 lunches from March of 2020 to
September of 2020 alone! We continue to serve suppers
throughout our community every week night.
This program is vital to the community and has helped
fill a gap created during the COVID-19 pandemic
with school closures.

Unmet Needs

In 2020, United Way of Knox County's Unmet Needs Fund
has covered over $5,000 worth of needs for families throughout Knox County who were facing emergency expenses. These needs can range from utility bills to beds to sleep on.

VNA Meal Preparation

When COVID-19 made in person dining at the VNA impossible for local seniors, United Way of Knox County stepped up to purchase and organize the meal preparation efforts for delivering meals. Every Tuesday the United Way of Knox County, along with other community members, would meet at the VNA to prepare and package up to 1,000 meals for the VNA's clients.

FISH Deliveries

With social distancing, getting to FISH to pick up food became impossible for some homebound residents.

United Way of Knox County sends an employee to FISH once a week to deliver food to those who do not have access to transportation to the food pantry.

Giving Tuesday

This year United Way of Knox County's Giving Tuesday celebration was bigger than ever before! You could hear us on the radio, support us at The Carriage House and Jimmy's Pizza, volunteer with us at the VNA and find us throughout the day on Facebook. We were ecstatic to raise over $5,000 on that single day alone!  With matching gifts from F&M Bank and G&M Distributors we were able to raise over $15,000!

Unified Command

United Way of Knox County takes pride in our efforts within the Galesburg Unified Command this past year when the COVID-19 crisis hit. We stepped up to help in the planning and identification of resources for local nonprofits throughout the pandemic. We are grateful to all who have been involved with this group and have worked to guide the community during these trying times.

Community Outreach

Throughout 2020 it has been our goal to reach more members in our community. This year we passed 1,000 followers on our Facebook page and have worked hard to keep you up to date on all of our work and achievements.
